I’ve always loved planning. Whether it’s a Daddy Daughter Day in LA, a romantic date night out, a family vacation or a girls getaway weekend, I’m obsessed with planning each and every stop! From the moment we arrive till the moment we leave, I’ve got coffee, brunch, dinner, drinks, activities and travel all dialed in! Happy hour? Check! Pool Party? Check! Dinner with an outdoor patio and great ambiance? Double check! It might come off a little Monica from Friends but trust me, I do my research! Besides…. “I wish we would have winged it” -said no one ever.
With that being said, my 30th birthday was no exception. In fact, I probably started planning this particular party at least six months in advance… (Don’t judge me!) Not because I’m some narcissist determined to have the most DIVA party of all time- nothing like that. What I really wanted was for my guests to have a girls getaway weekend they could really look forward to and most importantly, I wanted each and every one of them to know how much I appreciate them and am thankful to have them in my life.
Rule #1 for throwing an ultimate party: Location, location location!
The reason I consider this to be most important on the list is because it single handedly determines the entire trip. If you choose a central location near a ton of awesome restaurants, bars and things to do, you’ll never run out of things to keep your guests entertained. I chose Palm Springs for my bday weekend because it’s recently become my absolute FAVORITE local city. The people there are ridiculously nice, each hotel is unique and totally Insta-worthy and there are endless bars, restaurants an hot spots all located within walking distance from one another. Not to mention the bright colors and vintage style, it’s honestly the perfect place for a girls trip!
This time, we decided to rent a HomeAway (with a pool) which turned out to be a fantastic idea because it ended up being over 100° the entire weekend!!
You don’t have to break the bank to throw a good party, but a little decor can go a long way. I suggest picking a fun theme, relevant to your event and check Dollar Tree, Target or Amazon for cheap party supplies to give your party that extra pop!
I decided to stick with the Palm Springs theme and chose pastel colors like mint, coral and gold along with all things Pineapple, Flamingo and of course, pink!
#TREAT YO-SELF (and your guests!)
If you’ve never had Sprinkles cupcakes then you honestly need to get on that ASAP! Not only do they make the most delicious cupcakes in the world, but they have a TON of flavors and you can customize each one with a decoration! Sprinkles sent me a dozen cupcakes that I customized myself to fit our Palm Springs theme and they came out even better than I could have hoped! They were ALL delicious but my absolute favorites were Strawberry and Cinnamon Sugar. SO SO SO GOOD!
They even had a limited time Rolling Stone cupcake decoration! Unfortunately it ended just before our trip or you know it would have been in these photos too!
No party is complete without a Bubbly Bar! I found the shatterproof cocktail glasses and fun straws on Amazon and Royer Corp sent me a TON of these adorable drink stirrers and swizzle sticks that instantly made our DIY cocktails classy AF!
Sovereign Brands generously provided Bumbu rum and Luc Belaire Luxe & Rosé bubbly for our party and I had so much fun creating a delicious (and easy) cocktail for each!

A little “thank you” gift for your guests is a great hosting tip! It’s shows them you appreciate them making it out to your special day.
I also wanted to the set up to be almost like a blogger event, where each guest has their own place setting and little gift. Three of my favorite shops on Etsy, Rad Girl Fashion and Penny and Gigi and Little Blue Olive helped me do just that!
RAD GIRL FASHION is one of those awesome shops that has super trendy one-of-a-kind pieces you won’t find anywhere else, like a flamingo purse (NEED!!), enamel pins, patches, clothes and well TONS more! Check out their full site here.
PENNY AND GIGI X LITTLE BLUE OLIVE
This shop creates adorable (totally customizable) mini party hats and crowns perfect for ANY celebration! A 1 year olds birthday party (or in this case, a 30 year old!) Dog hats- y0u name it! There is so much care and detail that goes into making each hat and the color combinations are endless! Check out their Etsy shops here: Penny and Gigi on Etsy. Little Blue Olive on Etsy. By the way you HAVE to see Little Blue Olive’s mermaid hat! I need those for my next party!!
Especially nowadays with Instagram, Pinterest and all other social media platforms, photo ops are pretty much a MUST for a successful party! This is another perfect DIY project you can do easily on your own!
Keeping with the Palm Springs theme, I knew I wanted pink and palm leaves! Believe it or not, for the pink background we used 3 rolls of pink wrapping paper from Dollar Tree. I found the palm leaves on Amazon. Both held up with just a little painters tape (which is also important because it’s designed to protect whatever you stick it to so it won’t peel off any paint when you remove it). I got the “Cheers” balloons and the (pink) red carpet from Party Party and I made my own photo props. Again, I love all things DIY but if you’re not super crafty, you can buy the actual ones I modeled mine after on Amazon.
